East Dulwich

A very special project, an existing client was moving to a five bedroom property and in conjunction with Fraher Architects we redesigned the house from top to bottom including adding a full height basement level living area including a bar, playroom, gym and shower room.

DATE: 2022

LOCATION: Dulwich

ARCHITECT: Fraher Architects

BUILDER: Fraher Architects

PHOTOGRAPHER: Chris Wharton Photography

The basement was built and dug from scratch and had full height ceiling, a large winding staircase allowed light to flood in from the garden, giving the feel of an existing floor level, rather than a basement conversion. The room was wrapped in Clayworks matt finish cement giving a beautifully textured finish. We designed  a dropped ceiling to add a soft light around the room without any glare from standard spotlights. A huge sofa from Roche Bobois gave plenty of space for guests with a seated bench opposite for maximum entertaining options.

This very special entertainment space had a beautiful bespoke designed bar at one end with a Parisian piano at the other using beautiful hessian coloured linen curtains hung from a concealed track in the ceiling, softening the space and keeping the sight lines seamless.

Dining Room

The upstairs dining room flowed through from the hallway, opposite the kitchen with double french doors painted in Jitney by Farrow and Ball opening in to the landscaped garden.

The triptych of maps was sourced from Liberty of London and the dining table was handmade with a stunning live edge finish by the very talented Alexander and Ellis.

The rug is from Soho Home as is the mini bar cabinet in the corner.

Principal Suite

This principal suite highlights the beauty of transitional design. We blended traditional architectural grandeur with contemporary, organic textures. The feeling was to be a calm sanctuary where one feels instantly relaxed upon entering. The colour pallette a warm neutral – Joanna by Little Greene on the walls and Pearl Colour Dark by Little Greene on the ceiling and woodwork allowed the bedroom to flow seamlessly through double doors to the dressing room and onwards to a beautiful ensuite where we used japanese finger tiles, rich walnut vanity and soft cafe style window treatments for privacy.

Special Details

The client specifically requested that the double sinks not be next to each other so using a double sided hanging mirror from Alquacil & Perkoff, we centralised the vanity, placing a sink either side so each person would be next to a source of natural light, diffused through De La Cuona silk linen for privacy, and have their own space.

The floating vanity was made bespoke by Spaced In Ltd using walnut stained teak with a carrera marble, shark nose top and Japanese finger tiled splashback to match the shower enclosure.
